How to use Multiplication and Division Fact Families
Use the factor steppers, or New Family, to choose a times-table fact.
The first blank starts highlighted. Tap the correct number tile to fill it, then continue through all four equation frames.
Click a filled blank and choose a different tile to replace it, or use Undo to go back one step.
Build two multiplication facts and two division facts from the same three numbers.
Use the representation dropdown at the top to choose an array, bar model, rods, groups, number line, Numicon-style frames or no representation.
Press Check to see which frames are correct. Use Show Answer only after pupils have had thinking time.
Print Worksheet prints a blank four-fact template on one side of landscape A4. Record the two factors and product, complete the two multiplication and two division facts, then draw a representation for each. The header Print button still prints the current filled display.
The point is to show that one known multiplication fact unlocks the turnaround fact and the related division facts. For example, if 6 x 7 = 42, then 7 x 6 = 42, 42 ÷ 6 = 7 and 42 ÷ 7 = 6.
