Fraction Number Line

Using Fraction Number Line

Try this first

  1. Stay in Explore. The starting line runs from 0 to 1, split into four equal parts.
  2. Tap a mark on the line to place a fraction. Drag its arrow to move it.
  3. To place an exact fraction, enter its top and bottom numbers, then choose Place fraction. For three quarters, use Top 3, Bottom 4 and Wholes 0.
  4. Choose Practise above the line for a question. Follow the instruction and choose Check. Hint and Reveal are beside it.

Choose an activity. Place & count, Equivalent fractions, Compare & order and Calculate show only the working controls for that activity. In Practise, Question type offers a short matching list. Changing activity or question type starts a fresh unsolved question.

Set up the line. Parts per whole changes subdivisions without moving values. Line setup changes the start/end or accepts custom parts per whole. Display chooses labels, mixed/improper notation and half benchmarks. The whole stays the distance between consecutive whole numbers.

Place and count. Tap the line, or enter Wholes, Top and Bottom and choose Place fraction. Drag a marker or use its arrow keys; Home/End move to the bounds. Press Enter on a marker to edit its fraction. Update selected edits that marker. Show fraction bar appears beside a selected fraction. Counting jumps opens the jump controls.

Equivalent fractions. Select a fraction and multiply or divide both parts, or simplify its label. Its position stays fixed. Another scale opens the controls for an aligned line with different subdivisions. Show equivalent labels is optional.

Compare and order. Place several fractions in Explore. Common denominator/numerator offers optional reasoning support. In practice choose <, = or >, or use the ordering arrows. Equal values may be in either order.

Calculate. Enter Jump from and Jump to, then Add jump. Rightward jumps add and leftward jumps subtract; whole boundaries split jumps into connected legs. In Explore, Equal jumps / shares opens the controls for repeating a jump or sharing a length; practice shows those controls for equal-jump/share tasks. Count on appears when a destination marker is selected.

Zoom. Choose Zoom beside the line, enter an interval and its number of equal parts, then Split and zoom. The original line remains visible. Reset view removes the zoom without changing your work. Zoom preserves the original whole.

Practice. New makes an unseen question of the chosen type. Hint gives partial support; Check keeps your work; Reveal shows a solution without replacing it. Return to my work restores your attempt. Check reads typed fraction answers; use Place answer for a position task.

Teacher setup. Presets match the chosen activity. In practice, set difficulty, question denominators (separated by commas) and ordering direction where relevant. Apply teacher choices starts fresh. Problem givens have their own fraction entry. Changing activity or question type clears old givens.

Start again. Clear removes working but keeps the line and question. Reset restores the current task and removes zoom. Default setup in Line setup restores the 0–1 quarters line.

Share and print. Share this setup includes teacher choices and explicit givens, and starts unsolved. Pupil work, answers, hints, reveals and zoom are excluded. Print captures the display on one branded A4 landscape side.
